Pi Beta Phi
Campus Philanthropy

Throughout the school year, our sisters are dedicated to fundraising for our national philanthropy. Sisters love participating in and coordinating our philanthropy events on campus such as Lemonade for Literacy, Pie a Pi Phi, Cocoa for a Cause, and Dodge the Arrow, while also making plans to go out to eat and shop together when we have percent nights. Dodge the Arrow is a Dodgeball Tournament where Greek Organizations, Student Organizations, and anyone in the Carolina Community registers to play in a bracket style dodgeball tournament to win $100 to a charity of their choice and a golden dodgeball. In the Spring of 2017, we had our first ever “Arrow Week” where we combined all of these different events have continued this tradition in 2018, raising more money than ever before for our cause.

Pi Beta Phi encourages chapters to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday on March 2nd with an act of service. Over the span of 3 days, in March of 2016, we were able to donate 20,000 books to the Columbia area. This allowed teachers the chance to furnish their classroom library, granted children the chance get their own first book, and provided us the opportunity to see the power of reading.

In 2018, we participated in a Book Drive Battle with Clemson University and were able to beat our rivals, raising 3,322 books as a chapter for our local community.

On Friday afternoons throughout the semester, chapter members participate Pi Beta Phi’s reading initiative "Champions Are Readers", or CAR for short. It is a program designed by Pi Phi for students in pre-kindergarten to fifth grade where we go into their classroom, read different books, do follow up work based on the stories read, and after several weeks when the program is over our partnership with First Book allows us to give each child a brand new book! The best part is that this program is completely free thanks to donations from our Pi Beta Phi chapters across the nation. Read > Lead > Achieve is unique because it allows us to be hands-on with our philanthropy in these ways, giving us the luxury to really connect with what our chapter is supporting.
